Who Provides Merchant Account Services?
02/14/2008
There are many companies that offer merchant services packages. You may want to start off by inquiring at the bank where you currently have your corporate account. Usually, when you open this type of account, they will offer you literature on their merchant account features and guidelines. Depending on the bank, you may or may not be happy with the terms that are offered. You may also want to visit other banks in your area to see what they offer. In some cases, it will not even be necessary to move your corporate account from one bank to another.
If you do not like the terms offered by your local banks, there are some other options. Today, there are a number of third party merchant accounts vendors. You may want to ask your accountant for a recommendation. Because many stores have merchant accounts, they may also be able to give you some advice. You can be sure a business has this type of feature on their corporate account if you can pay for your items with debit cards and credit cards.
Failing that, you can do a web search and find a sizeable number of total merchant services vendors. Even though these businesses may offer you cheaper rates than what you will find at a local bank, you will need to take some precautions. Among other things, scam artists set up websites every day. Even if a company is legitimately incorporated, it does not mean they will take proper care of your merchant service needs.
