Debt Help for College Students
12/24/2007
College students are often the largest group that needs credit card debt negotiation. Society as a whole tends to blame this on the irresponsibility of young people. While that may be true in some cases, in most situations it is simply the high expenses and demands of a college education that lead to credit card debt with college students. A lack of preparation for dealing with the world at large, such as education in budgeting skills, can also be to blame for this trend.
There are many ways that college students can get help in settling and negotiating their credit card debt. Due to the rising percentage of students with these problems, many college campuses and universities are providing services to students free of charge or on a sliding scale to help them with their debt. In fact, many of these services are far superior than services offered to the general public. The services are typically provided through the Student Union or Student Hall.
The services offered to college students are much like those offered to the general public, with the exception that special emphasis is given to budgeting skills and learning to cope without credit cards. Many of the counselors will attempt to get the student to give up credit cards all together until they have completed their education. The counselors can also help in credit card debt negotiation.
